Some photos of the first performers at Saturday’s battle of the bands that wasn’t.

I felt particularly bad for Aggressive Benevolence, a Christian hard rock band that traveled all the way from Gillette, Wyo., to “compete.” They played hard and put their best face on a lousy situation. I wasn’t impressed with Aggressive Benevolence’s music — but it could have been different had I seen them in a real concert setting. Guys, you didn’t deserve this.

The worst part is, the audio levels were so off that all the bands sounded pretty crappy. In fact, I’ve seen Emissary perform many times, and I’ve never heard them sound so flat. On top of it all, the right-hand speaker kept cutting out during Emissary’s last song, and there was a ridiculous amount of feedback screeching throughout the entire event that affected all the bands.

Many people left; others, like me, stayed because they wanted to see some specific bands.

The event was put on by “Last Call Entertainment” (MySpace page, and their other website that looks like it was designed by a 6-year-old). Tickets said it was a “Battle Royale,” but it was clearly actually a show for some specific bands. They got a completely undeserved $12 from each attendee, got opening bands to play without compensation, had unlimited free advertisement from local bands inviting fans to watch them compete, and didn’t even bother to provide any kind of experience for the audience. What a scam.

One Response to “Aggressive Benevolence”

I was unimpressed by the lack of professionalism by “Last Call Ent”. We were asked by them to come over to this show. It started late, all bands were misinformed on what equipment (backline) were going to be used, the sound guy didnt know what he was doing until the end, & the price per ticket was ridiculous. I was almost charged & I’m a band member. Our families were also charged even our young children. “The premise” of the battle of the bands was definately a major scam. We were out quite a bit of money to drive from Gillette & then to have to pay to get in on top of that. Just wanted other bands to be aware of this in case they come back to the area.
Our music may not be for everyone, or your “taste” or style BUT our message & purpose is the same.
